The ‘Rainbow Eyes’ Trend is Helping us to Feel Like Summer Isn’t Really Over

It’s also really making us want gelato.

Earlier today, Bohemian Rhapsody star Lucy Boynton stepped out at the Venice Film Festival for a Miu Miu Women’s Tales event. And whilst the pink Miu Miu ensemble she sported was beautiful, it was her makeup that really sealed the deal.

Eschewing a tonal eye, Boynton and makeup artist Jo Baker opted for a rainbow-hued look that is truly what summer dreams are made of. Blending hues of hot pink, baby pink, yellow, green and aqua, Baker says she was “highly inspired strolling around #StMarksSquare staring at beautiful #gelato cafe displays paired with seeing everyone’s #labourdayweekend posts and the close of summer.”

In another Instagram post, Baker revealed she achieved the look by using multiple eyeshadows, applied with both a blending brush and her hand, to create the outcome. To let the eye shine, the rest of Boynton’s skin was left dewy and natural.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen the look either, with Cara Delevingne sporting a similar eye at the London premiere of her new film Carnival Row just last week. Delevingne’s moment was the work of Lisa Eldridge and saw the famed artist blend various tones of orange, pink and yellow across the eyes. Incredibly, replying to a fan on Instagram who complimented the look, Eldridge revealed it took no time at all to create. “The whole makeup look took under 30 minutes from start to finish,” she wrote. “I was feeling inspired.”

The look, also known as “tie-dye eyes”, was spotted on Collina Strada’s NYFW runway show back in February, too, with makeup artist Takeda Rena using Shiseido’s Kajal Inkartist Shadow pencils to create a vibrant, watercolour-inspired eye on models.

With fall well and truly on its way here in Canada, we’re loving that this look helps keep summer alive for a little longer yet.
