When Todd Lynn moved to London in 1998, we doubt the Smith Falls native guessed that he’d one day be atop the British fashion scene. Already beloved by the likes of Rihanna, Mick Jagger, Courtney Love and fellow Canuck Coco Rocha, the tailor with a hard rock edge was recognized by the British Fashion Council at last night’s Fashion Forward awards. Along with Meadham Kirchoff and Peter Pilotto, Lynn recieved a two season-long sponsorship focusing on financial and business planning.

Eager to hear how he’s been taking it all in, we quizzed Lynn on the award, the future, and of course, how it feels to be repping Canada across the pond!

How does it feel to be recognized for your talent in such a big way?
I’m thrilled to have been selected as one of the designers to receive the BFC’s Fashion Forward Award.  It’s great to have my hard work recognized by a panel of some of the most influential fashion people in London.

What is the Fashion Forward fund going to help you do for the next year?
The money will go towards the expenses of the show, but I am especially looking forward to working with the teams at the BFC and [Coutts & Co] on the mentoring side of the award which will provide invaluable business insight and information to help my business grow.

How does it feel to be the only Canadian in the mix?
Yay Canada! I’m so proud to be part of the group of Canadians who are such a big part of London Fashion Week. It’s great that we can show the fashion talent that Canada can produce and that we can hopefully give a little inspiration to those fashion students slaving away in Canada, in showing that they can make it…. If they work very very very hard.

Any way you’d give us a tiny little tidbit into what fall looks like? We can’t wait!
I never give anything away before the show…. Watch this space…
