Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss To Design a New Line for Reebok
Two brands, one man.
Pyer Moss first collaborated with Reebok in the spring of 2016, when they debuted a mix of athleisure and edgy work attire of mens and womenswear during New York Fashion Week. Now it looks like the dynamic duo will be extending their partnership with the creation of a new line called Reebok Studies_,where Pyer Moss designer Kerby Jean-Raymond will serve as artistic director.
According to a press release, Reebok Studies_ is all about “fostering and developing young design talent” by working independently with upcoming designers, artists and personalities. The blank underscore at the end of the name exists as a placeholder for whoever the brand chooses to collaborate with. Though the brand will be designed by Jean-Raymond, he will focus on designing each collection with one new subject at a time. “The idea would be that Reebok studies ‘X’ personality and do a deep-dive and focus on that person,” said Jean-Raymond in an interview with HYPEBEAST.
“I felt like there was a lot of focus around general product and not enough focus on the themes and the fashion components that we know to be cool. I understood that to ask a company who was in motion with so many projects to sit and focus on other young designers was a lot for them, so I made myself available.” Jean-Raymond’s goes is to grow the brand by hiring those who best fit the Reebok Studios_ vibe.
The Haitian-American designer said Reebok Studies_ was created due to the “inspiration he got from the roster of talent” surrounding Reebok and Pyer Moss. The division was first pitched back in 2018, and has since been through a number of rebrands before being brought to life as Reebok Studies_.
“The creation of Reebok Studies_supports the brand’s commitment to fostering and developing young design talent and delivering products with a purposeful story,” said Karen Reuther, Vice President of Creative Design.
Jean-Raymond says he’s honoured to be working on such a new concept with Reebok, and that the continuation of working with established and ‘unknown’ reators is just as compelling.
Although we’re not quite sure when the first collection will land, we just hope that the first drop isn’t too far along so we all can sport some Reebok Studies_fits.
