Deidre Marinelli gears up for fall and gives an inside look on the September 2026 issue’s The Ones cover shoot.
And just like that, it’s September.
The winding down of summer always has me feeling a bit wistful and wondering where the season has gone. Of course, it also brings with it the delight of a sublime period for fashion. At FASHION, September is especially exciting because not only does it mark a moment of reset and a reimagining of intentions for the months ahead but it’s also the month of our iconic The Ones issue. Dedicated to celebrating everything stylish and Canadian, it’s one of our favourite issues to plan for—and it’s a process that starts very early in the year.
We shot September’s cover stars in early summer in Toronto, and our set was pure fire. Headlining this issue is a trio of incredible Canadian actors: Humberly González, Nathan Mitchell and Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova. Together, these stars had an infectious energy and immaculate vibes. Learn more about each of them in our cover feature.
I’m excited to share that this issue is not the only thing González, Mitchell and Kharlarmova are bringing main-character energy to—they will also be VIP guests at our celebrated The Ones event (which has become as buzzy as the Met Gala), held during the Toronto International Film Festival. Trust me when I say that this will be our biggest bash yet.
This fall, you’ll be stocking your closet with modern boho looks, sharp shoulders, suede, leopard and other animal prints (which act as neutrals) and sleek, structured handbags. Statement outerwear is topping my shopping list—I’m here for shearling, leather and cropped-bomber silhouettes. Beauty-wise, I am loving the ’90s influences: low-key blush, cool-toned shades and the return of glitter and metallics.
Some of my favourite features in this issue are centred on beauty and wellness. We dive into the latest trends—from the runway to your dermatologist’s office—and our wellness focus is on run clubs. We also showcase Canada’s best fashion-week shows, chic timepieces, eyewear and suit silhouettes for men. And on the topic of men of great style, we’re thrilled to have Toronto-based digital creator Lexson Millington as guest editor.
