Pre-Fashion Week Q&A: Angela Chen of Orange

A look from Orange Fall 2010

Vancouver-based designer Angela Chen first launched her line, Orange, in New York City, where she attended Parsons The New School for Design. She’s dressed Coco Rocha and ChloĆ« Sevigny and next week, she’s bringing her cool-girl minimalism to Toronto Fashion Week for the first time. Chen took our Fashion Week questionnaire. Read all about it, after the jump.

Describe the inspiration for your fall collection in five words or less. “Minimal and structured yet feminine and wearable.”

What’s your personal favourite piece in your fall collection? “It’s really tough to pick a personal favourite as I have been looking at them all for so long. They all are like my babies! They are all my creations. But if I had to pick one, perhaps it would be the hand-knit chunky sweaters because they are so cozy and warm. Plus, I hand-knit them myself!”

Which celebrity would you most want to see in your clothes and why? “I would love to see Natalie Portman in my pieces. I’ve had the opportunity to dress ChloĆ« Sevigny, Kirsten Dunst, Alison Pill and supermodels Coco Rocha and Daria.”

This is your first time showing at LG Fashion Week. Why did you decide to show in Toronto? “I have decided to show in Toronto because its the largest fashion week in Canada and I’d like to like to introduce my brand to a broader audience.”

How will you celebrate after the show? “Sleep!”

Angela Chen presents her Fall 2010 collection for Orange on March 30 at Toronto Fashion Week. Catch all our coverage of the shows on our Fashion Week hub at fashionmagazine.com/attheshows.
