Ballet lovers helped celebrate the re-opening of Prada’s “Mink Mile” boutique earlier this month with a shopping event that saw 10% of sales diverted to the National Ballet of Canada’s Dancer Health and Wellness Program. According to program chair and host Lynda Prince, “the performances you see come at a cost.” Dancers routinely push their bodies and risk injuries that can keep them on the sidelines or even end a career. The health and wellness team is made up of physicians, surgeons, nutritionists as well as physio and massage therapists who can treat an injury the moment it occurs. “In my day, way back, there was no one to help us,” said artistic director and former dancer Karen Kain. “These dancers are like athletes.”
