Bravo to the house of Christian Dior for handling the Galliano debacle with tact and elegance. In a tent at the Musee Rodin, Sidney Toledano, Dior CEO, addressed the crowd, reminding them of the history of the house. He pointed out the legacy of founder, Christian Dior, who loved both women and feminine beauty. He also called to mind the house’s strongly held values of craftsmanship and technique.
What followed was a parade of fox trimmed ruffles for day and dreamy boudoir chiffons for night, all with a ‘70s kick of burgundy and grey. The models’ final passage was met with hearty applause. But when the white-coated workers of the Dior atelier emerged onstage the audience leapt to its feet. It was a brilliant way of saying that, though a collection needs a leader, the final product is the result of many hands.
