It doesn’t matter that Gwyneth Paltrow was smiling, amiable, and stunning; that Kristen Stewart was hard to recognize with dark hair; that there were more Vuitton outfits on guests than on a Vuitton runway; or that Anna Dello Russo arrived in a sugary Spring 2012 ad campaign outfit with a parasol, which she clutched most of the night.

All that mattered was that the man of the hour arrived in a pink polo dress. It was hard to tell at first, Jacobs being the centre of a crush of well-wishers. But the photos don’t lie.
