How Does Paul Anthony Kelly’s Style Compare to JFK Jr.’s?

The man portraying the famous Kennedy on FX’s ‘Love Story’ has quite the sartorial shoes to fill.

Few men have left as big an imprint on pop culture, fashion and society as a whole as John F. Kennedy Jr. A beloved American lawyer, magazine publisher and philanthropist, JFK Jr.’s legacy extends far beyond his famous parents, and he’s recently re-entered the public’s cultural consciousness thanks to the new FX show that chronicles his and wife Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s whirlwind romance, Love Story.

In the new series, Kennedy is played by Paul Anthony Kelly, an emerging Canadian-born actor (and new dad!) who was originally discovered as a model while working at Toronto’s own Queen Street East American Apparel location. With his dark features, towering frame and carefully coiffed locks, the model-turned-actor has been praised for physically looking the part on screen—yes, even down to the chest hair—but how does Kelly’s IRL style match up to Kennedy’s stylishly revered history?

Since the show’s premiere earlier this month, the actor has been spotted out and about in NYC (which also happens to be JFK Jr.‘s own famous stomping grounds), and, with the help of stylist Warren Alfie Baker, it’s safe to say he’s been dressing the part. Just as Kennedy was known for his tailored yet effortless and casually confident style, Kelly seems to be leaning into that same timeless and polished aesthetic with a variety of ‘90s-esque looks.

The actor captured JFK Jr.‘s knack for high-low dressing with this head-to-toe Brunello Cucinelli look that balanced a rich chocolate brown leather jacket and sleek loafers with a quintessential pair of simple blue straight-legged jeans. To complete the outfit, he sported a rectangular-faced Jaeger-LeCoultre wristwatch that peeked out under his stylish sleeve.

For the average person, pulling off the tie-tucked-into-pants move would be quite the feat, but Kelly makes it look easy (and has me questioning why we don’t see this style more often). Complete with a Celine blazer, a crisp Chanel button-down, black sunnies and another jeans and loafers combo, the actor totally captures JFK Jr.‘s classically cool vibe with this look.

In a recent GQ interview, Kelly expressed that his personal style icons include Cary Grant and Dean Martin—and we can clearly see the influence in this sophisticated ensemble. With those same black sunglasses tying the look together, Kelly donned a grey monochromatic suit by Paul Smith and a matching coat from fine-tailoring legend, Brioni.

While hanging out at the Empire State Building with Love Story co-star Sarah Pidgeon (who plays Bessette-Kennedy), Kelly leaned into the classics with a high-collared leather jacket accompanied by a simple white top, easy black slacks and complementary leather loafers—all by Prada.

For a Miu Miu Women’s Tales event, Kelly sported a head-to-toe look from the preppy-cool brand. Swapping his loafers for lace-up black and white sneakers, the actor tucked a striped pink button-down into his deep blue jeans, which he paired with a tan brown barn jacket by the brand.
