Paris is a very chic place on any given week. But Fashion Week? The bar for style and polish is raised to an almost impossible level. Walk into the hotel lobby of a place like the Plaza Athenée or George V and you’ll be shoulder-to-shoulder with VIP show attendees, who are dressed to the nines on their way to the Saint Laurent or Balmain shows.
As for what they’re wearing? Plenty of trench coats and softly structured leather jackets. Swingy midi skirts paired with oversized button-downs. Accessories like hats, neckties and statement necklaces make frequent appearances.
The overall vibe is undeniably French in that the outfits are (mostly) restrained and polished, but the fashion factor is nonetheless dialled up to 11—it is Fashion Week, after all. And as the last stop on the marathon fashion month calendar, it seems editors, influencers and VIPs are ending the season on a sophisticated note. While it might be effortful, it’s never try-hard.
