Online Store of the Week: Violet Crown Vintage is our new favourite Texas-based and Toronto-born Etsy shop

The low down: After living the life of a freelance writer (and awesome street style photographer for us) in her hometown of Toronto, Lia Parsley and her husband moved down to Austin, Texas where she began her Etsy shop, Violet Crown Vintage in August of this year. Parsley’s interest in fashion, styling and vintage treasure hunting made her realize that she had a perfect opportunity to find and share some great pieces from a city that is known for having some of the best vintage clothing in the world.
Parsley did her research before they made the big move and found out that in the 1800s the city became known as the “City of the Violet Crown” because of the purple glow that appears over the hills and horizon after sunset during winter. “Twilight being my favorite time of day, I knew in the name ‘Violet Crown’ that I had a particular feeling I wanted to capture for the brand,” she says. And thus, a store that provides unique and timeless vintage pieces—that are still contemporary—was conceived.
The price range: $18—$165
The goods: Parsley travels all over the state—from thrift shops, rag houses, estate sales, antique markets and auctions—to find the goods she puts online. Rummaging through her online shop, you can see the obvious influences of a life lived in the American Southwest (western boots, bolo ties, pearl snaps, etc). Yet Parsley ensures that the pieces found in VCV are unique, timeless and will work with today’s trends. A quick look conjures up gems from the ‘80s and ‘90s including a French maid party dress from Betsy Johnson’s rare LUXE line ($165) and some amazing red cowboy boots ($78) that are unfortunately a size too small for us. The shop also has a section of well-selected pieces for the man in your life, as well as a section of cute home accessories.
The shipping: Shipping to us up here in Canada usually takes 7 to 10 days, and as for those in the US your purchases will get to you in 2 to 4 days. The fees are standard shipping rates, but Parsley is happy to create custom shipping quotes for those of us that can’t resist ordering two or more items. And as far as returns go, if you reeeeally have to return that amazing denim shirt, she offers store credit to be used within 3 days of receiving your parcel. But we suggest really thinking it through before you decide to do that.
