Ones to watch: We’re girl-crushing on Kym Ellery

Kym Ellery is one of those designers who is her own best model⎯one look at her own style, and the connection to her label Ellery becomes clear. A magnet for style snappers, (including Garance Doré) and a graduate of talent-factory Central Saint Martins, this Australian is magnet for girl-crushes, and we’re certainly not immune.

Her latest collection for Fall 2011 (the current season down under and therefore shop-able by us!) is aptly titled “Tenenbaums in the Tuileries.” The collection is a perfect summary of her aesthetic, bringing together her penchant for dark inspirations (past starting points include the Zodiac and pagan rituals) with maximalist luxe touches like organza, diamantes, and the finest silks.

This season’s standouts? Blush-hued silky shirtdresses, a sharply structured brush stroked papaya leather top, luminescent gathered maxi-skirts and embellished ankle boots with Lucite heels. And while Ellery’s collections seem to be made up of statement pieces, she also offers up plenty of perfect basics for modern dressing, like drape-y tees in impossibly soft fabrics and sorbet shades and perfect crepe de chine boyfriend-style blazers.

Always managing to create a perfect balance between statement and staple, Ellery is one hot talent from down under that we’ll be keeping dibs on.

Ellery is available at elleryland.com.
