Introducing Atelier Gourmet, our latest 360° hub that exists at the intersection of fashion and food. Think: Stylish restaurant openings, splashy and exclusive dinner parties and one-on-ones with the culinary industry’s buzziest tastemakers. Let’s dig in.
The location: A tucked away street in the heart of Toronto’s entertainment district. The vibe: behind-the-scenes at the buzzing Toronto location of Nobu, the latest jewel in Nobu Hospitality’s crown. The restaurant, dreamed up by acclaimed, Toronto-based Studio Munge, takes inspiration from traditional Japanese design with a dose Canadian craftsmanship and unfolds across two levels. First, a dimly lit bar welcomes you downstairs, leading up to an expansive, high-ceiling dining room, complete with curved and textured plaster walls and striking focal point: a suspended, floral-inspired installation above the main dining room created by Canadian ceramic artist Andrea Braescuan.
Tucked into a corner of the sprawling space is the open kitchen, where guests can watch signature dishes come to life, like the iconic spicy tuna crispy rice and yellowtail jalapeño, as well as local exclusives like grilled lamb rack with hacho miso and Chilean sea bass with red jalapeño miso. Signature cocktails like the lychee martini and the 1942 Hinode—Nobu Toronto’s interpretation of a tequila sunrise made with Don Julio 1942 Anejo—round out an unforgettable experience.
Toronto marks Nobu’s 56th location around the world and the first in Canada. And it opens just as the famed culinary and hotel brand turns 30.
To celebrate, Nobu Toronto kicked off a slate of activations, collaborations and events. One highlight is Sushi Club, a social hub and community created by creative director Chris Stamp and Chef Nobu Matsuhisa. The brand—which boasts fans around the world—exists at the intersection fashion, art and food. To that end, Sushi Club released a limited-edition streetwear collection designed by Stamp and Matsuhisa that includes hats, T-shirts and hoodies that can be purchased at the restaurant or online.
To further cement its presence as a true culinary authority, Nobu Toronto teamed up with FASHION for a food-meets-style shoot featuring Chef Nobu Matsushisa, FASHION Publisher Deidre Marinelli and Senior Creative and Fashion Director, FASHION and Events, George Antonopoulos.
The images capture the energetic, elevated essence of the space (not to mention the exquisite food). With so many events and exclusive parties on the calendar, Nobu Toronto is just getting started. Time to make a reservation.
