Jordan's New York: Marc Jacobs

By Jordan Porter

My first NYC fashion week starts off with some serious star sightings. Making the Toronto to NYC trek on Porter, I sat beside Diane Kruger who was met at the airport by her long-time beau Joshua Jackson. In what felt like the blink of an eye, I was racing off the plane and into the city to take my seat at the most anticipated show of NY fashion week:  Marc Jacobs. Squeezing my way between the paps’ flashing bulbs and Kelly Osborne, Nicole Richie (looking beautiful by the way) and Helena Christensen, I found my seat...yes an actual seat at the hottest ticket in town!! Waiting for the crowds to settle down I caught glimpses of Anna Wintour, Diane von Furstenberg and Rachel Zoe in a floor-length aubergine gown—such excitement for a little NY fashion newbie!! And then the show starts...

Marc Jacobs show was all I could have asked for and more - while my thoughts on the collection were Anne of Green Gables-meets-Moulin Rouge, my fashionably fabulous contributing editor used a more direct turn-of-the-century-French Riviera comparison. Either way there were lots of toned-down tartans paired with bustles, ruffles and a whole lot of shine. The accessories—crushed straw hats, chain-handled quilted mini bags and lots of bangles—were over-the-top in a great way.  The looks were painted in all colours of the rainbow and the glitz and glitter were heightened with each look letting us know that Jacobs still has that je ne sais quoi that keeps him at the top of the game.

More tomorrow based on today’s shows.... I spent the better half of the morning staring at Natalie Portman!
