New York: East meets west at Monique Lhuillier

Need a dress for the Oscars? Monique Lhuillier is the label for you. This fall, Lhuillier’s collection was inspired by Chinese warriors and military dress.
Translation: strong silhouettes with a tough, chic edge; long sleeves, high necks and bold shoulders. Lots of crimsons and dragon-printed jacquard, lace accents and shiny lacquer finishes. Dresses range from flirty micro-minis to all-out floor-grazing drama. The final look - a draped red duchesse-silk gown with a flourish of rosettes - was reminiscent of Valentino, but nonetheless a visual symphony.
