When one of the #FashionFam ties the knot, you know it will be a wildly stylish event. Myles Sexton and Tyler Austin’s wedding was three years in the making, and it was a joyful day filled with their iconic moments, their closest people and incredible fashion.

Tyler proposed to Myles in November 2022 during a snowstorm on a mountain in his home province of Alberta. “We had plans to go hiking around Banff, but the weather turned, and all roads were closed,” Myles says. “I found one mountain road open so we decided to hike it with no winter gear. The higher we climbed, the deeper the snow got. I was disappointed we weren’t going to make it to the top but Tyler suggested we stop where we were and take photos. I set up my tripod and hit record and turned around to find Tyler down on one knee to ask me to marry him.”

The rugged backdrop of their engagement set the mood for the couple’s wedding day which Myles (who grew up in Nova Scotia) shares reflected both their and Tyler’s rural roots. “We wanted to give a nod to the country music we grew up,” they say. “As adults we both feel country music and Western wear culture hasn’t been the most inclusive place for us to be our authentic selves. Our wedding was a perfect opportunity to create our own safe space.”

On September 13, Myles and Tyler married at The Barn 1906, a rustic and romantic venue in Bradford, Ontario. They said their “I do“s outdoors on an alter adorned with lush, locally-sourced greenery designed by Forgather Floral Co.

Myles says for them, Tyler’s vows were the most magical part of the day. “He’s not the most forthcoming with his feelings, but his vows were raw and from the heart,” they reflect. “The entire night my heart hurt because it was so full of love.”

Tyler’s top moment: Seeing Myles walk down the aisle.

Channelling Cate Blanchett’s Galadriel from the Lord of the Rings series, Myles wore a custom gown from Canadian designer Denis Gagnon. The white column dress featured a high neckline, theatrical draped sleeves and a dramatic open back to highlight their tattoo, inspired by the wings of an osprey. A Ralph Lauren belt, heels by John Fluevog, Pandora jewellery and a bespoke white cowboy hat made by Toronto-based small business Coup De Tête finished the look. Myles did their own makeup using products by MAC Cosmetics, and wore their hair in long, loose waves.

“I honoured myself with my outfit,” Myles says. “I thought about wearing a suit because I didn’t want people to feel uncomfortable; I then realized I could not let shame have influence on my special day. Having Denis create my wedding dress was a full circle moment because when I was a kid, I would save my money to buy his pieces.”

Tyler’s look was also custom by Canadian brand 18 Waits. He wore a slim-cut olive green suit and patterned shirt paired with cowboy boots from Luxxemx, jewelry from by Clocks and Colours and a bespoke hat from Coup de Tête.

“Tyler’s look brought to life every detail he envisioned,” Myles explains. “His hat was decorated with artwork surrounding the number 13, which is his lucky number and our wedding date. An engraved tie clip from his late grandfather’s wedding day was sewn into the hat band, which was a deeply meaningful touch.”

The couple invited guests to bring their fashion A-game to their party, and the crowd did not disappoint. They did not create mood boards for guests, but instead gave two style directives to be interpreted accordingly. “Upstage the bride, and western wear inspired outfits is what were told our guests,” Myles says. “We wanted them to embrace these how they saw fit.”

Guest interaction was a huge part of the day. There was no seating chart at the reception so guests could choose where they sat, and with whom, at one of two long tables. The menu featured Asian-inspired street food from the couple’s favourite restaurant Low Down. Being a content creator, Myles knows first-hand what makes for a great event and made sure their party had tons of activities to elevate the guest experience.

“We had an Instax photo selfie guest book, portrait painting by artist Lauren Pearson, lawn games and a tattoo bar by The Black Rose where guests could get inked with a design inspired by our wedding,” Myles says. “For our first dance we invited guests to join us. I was beautiful to see the love come together and to see a diverse pairing of couples together who felt safe in our space.”

Music also played a special role at this party thanks to Canadian country singer Robert Adam who performed throughout the night singing their own music and classics from Dolly Parton, Fleetwood Mac and Johnny Cash. DJ Elise Purdon took the party into late night for which Myles’ switched up into a second ‘fit by Denis Gagnon.

“I chose a deconstructed corset blazer with palazzo pants,” they share. “Milliner David Dunkley made me a beautiful crown from archival feathers. Each of my outfits honoured my divine masculine and divine feminine and I could not have felt more beautiful.”
