Montreal: Pop up fashion

My favorite festival is finally heading our way! The ever expanding Pop Montréal (October 1-5, popmontreal.com) will strike again from this year, invading the streets, bars and churches with music, film, art and of course—our reason to live—fashion. Aside from the shows I can’t wait to attend, Puces Pop, the fashion branch of the festivities is presenting many events to prove once again that music and fashion don’t just have a fling, but a marriage.

Two dates you simply cannot miss if you are in town:  First, on October 2, I suggest we meet at theFashion Show and Emerging Designers Award at the Coda Social Club (4119 St. Laurent Blvd.), where six sewing masters will let their creations compete on the catwalk in order to win a $2000 cash prize, courtesy of Le Château. Be sure not to leave too early because this will also be the official launch party of Puces Pop 2008.

After that, let’s wander around The Market Place at the St. Michel Church Hall (105 St. Viateur, West) on October 4 and 5.  Over one hundred designers and craftspeople will come together to showcase everything from jewellery and fashion design, to homemade soaps and  puppets and much more.  Now don’t be shy, I know you’ve been dreaming of getting a puppet ever since you saw Being John Malkovich.  I know I’m getting one.
