Montreal: Fashion week wrap-up

Cold breeze blowing in from the ocean front (alright, alright river front), no parking to be found, girls tripping in the cracks of the old paved street with their high heels, and a hot red carpet inviting us to the Marché Bonsecours: Yep, we’ve made it to another Fashion Week!

On Thursday night, armed with my latest outfit bought in NYC, I entered the fashion madness where hipsters, journalists and designer comrades were getting ready (i.e. waiting in the hallway) for the much-anticipated Travis Taddeo runway show (shown). The first of four shows that night (followed by La Diva, Soïa & Kyo and Denis Gagnon), Taddeo’s spring collection was filled with stretchy tight mini-dresses with cut-outs on the hips, sexy shorts and bright pink, gold-and-white-vinyl cocktail dresses. A young collection, and daring for sure, but will it be easy to wear? We’ll let the clients of Three Monkeys (1455 Peel St., 514 284 1333, threemonkeys.ca) decide that.

Later on, I had the pleasure of sitting front row at the La Diva fundraiser/fashion show from Laboratoire Créatif, where TV stars and musicians (dressed as princesses and fairies) strutted down the runway. Nobody fell and the event was a success, for the young designers and the cause (Look Good Feel Better) alike.

Finally, who could speak of Thursday night without mentioning Denis Gagnon’s runway show, a parade of gorgeous, draped dresses in many colors paired with Gagnon’s leather bags and daring jewellery from Harakiri. Now that’s high fashion, ladies and gentlemen.
