Montreal: Des chaussures, mon amour
Hands and shoes. That’s what I’ve always looked at first in a person. I always thought hands captured the essence of someone and shoes captured their level of style. After all, shoes are what makes an outfit perfect. Some see footwear as an ordinary necessity--I see it as the final touch of elegance and creativity. Shoes should make a statement and people should look at you with a question mark in their face (Is she crazy or she’s cutting edge? Could I really wear those shoes?) or else, they’re just not worth the ride.
Spending your life in comfortable loafers is such a missed opportunity! Yes they are another reason to spend more money, but you know, I don’t need a car, so I have tons of shoes. You can take cash you would spend on insurance or new brakes and stop at Mona Moore (1446 Sherbrooke St. W., 514-842-0662, monamoore.com) to pick up a pair from Lanvin, Dries Van Noten or Jil Sander’s latest collections. The co-owners, Anna Maria Varriano and Lisa Bush travel abroad four times a year to choose designs from the runways and
bring them back to the store for the joy of their Montreal clientele (and shoppers in their online store). The shop has an amazing sale section, anyone can find chaussure à son pied!
P.S. If I had a car, I would trade it for this Dries Van Noten clutch! *sigh*
