Milan: September 23

By Susie Sheffman

Waiting for a Prada show to begin is always an electrifying experience. First there’s the mad crush at the door, next, the confused scramble through a maze of seating, followed by the whispered buzz about what Mrs. Prada, as her staff lovingly call her, is about to show.  Trust me: You can guess all you want, you will never get it right!

Tonight’s show of disheveled, crumpled cotton contrasted with structured, perfectly-coiffed chignons was Mad Men meets Mad Max. It made me think of Tippi Hedren in The Birds: Her eyes may have been getting pecked out of their sockets, but her hair and makeup were perfect!

Unfortunately, what really captured our attention were the poor models teetering perilously on higher-than-high clunky heels. The fear on their faces was palpable and a few took some perilous falls. Talk about High Anxiety!  Too bad because it distracted from what was really a beautiful and strong collection.
