Milan: Prada and Aquilano.Rimondi Fall 2009
When the Prada invitation arrives at the hotel you feel an immense sense of relief and then start trying to decipher the clues to Milan’s biggest mystery: What will Miuccia show?
Once at the show, finding your seat is all part of the fun and anticipation. In the pitch dark, you never know if you’ll find yourself in a swirling, convoluted maze or on a seemingly randomly placed plexi cube, so as I climbed up to the top of the Rem Koolhaus designed scaffolding in last night’s intimate arena setting, I knew one thing for sure: if the rest of Milan is showing sexed-up ’80s punk chicks, Mrs. Prada would do a complete 180. And that she did!
She hit a cool city-meets-country note with thigh-high rubber hip waders and belted, felted wool and sculptural leather greatcoats and suits. Great shapes!!
Next, on to Aquilano.Rimondi, whose line is as strong as their pagoda shoulders! Ended up at L’Amour with bff photographer Gabor Jurina and Holt Renfrew’s fabulous Barbara Atkin, dishing into the wee hours.
