Meghan Markle Debuts her First Eveningwear Outfit – And It’s A Suit

Our God and Queen Meghan Markle just stepped out to attend an awards ceremony for wounded veterans in London and she’s chosen a rather bold look for the occasion: a menswear-inspired suit. Her suit is by Alexander McQueen, which she’s paired with a crepe bodysuit by Tuxe Bodywear, and a particularly sturdy-looking umbrella of unknown origin. (Will the Meghan Markle Effect extend to rain gear as well?)

This is Meghan’s first nighttime appearance since her engagement to Royal Ginger Prince Harry and we love that she’s chosen a Le Smoking-style suit, reminiscent of Marlene Dietrich or Katharine Hepburn. While Meghan Markle donning a suit is hardly a revolutionary outfit choice, it does read as a bold move for a future member of the British Royal Family. Can you imagine Kate Middleton, lover of the long-sleeve shift dress, ever wearing anything more casual than a dress suitable for afternoon tea? Do you think the Queen has ever worn a pantsuit in her entire life? Exactly.
