Magical moments

Last week, as I was driving to our downtown office early in the morning, I spotted a flock of hipsters sitting on the sidewalk with their oversized shades or standing with their friends, all of them waiting for the new Ste-Catherine H&M to open. The line was so long I couldn’t see the end of it.

These young gals might have enjoyed the store’s launch party with DJ Samantha Ronson (Lindsay Lohan’s new mate) the night before, which had been particularly wild. Just imagine 3 vast floors filled with fall marvels and about 300 fashion people throwing cocktails down, chatting, running around and fighting to try the clothes on. The music was loud, the drinks were strong, and we all ended up dancing drunkenly to the beats of some Michael Jackson tune. I’ll be going back to the gorgeous boutique later to pick up some winter staples like plaid shirts, PVC pants and tons of accessories.

I really needed a good detox after all this grooming and partying, so I headed to the mythical Auberge du Lac Taureau (www.lactaureau.com) for a weekend of anonymity in the deep woods. Relaxing and magical, it was. Tucked in a forest around the luxuriant Réservoir Taureau in the North, the hotel’s brand new condos offer the full comfort of a house, minus the hassles. Memorable moments include gazing at the full moon from the bedroom’s bath; drinks and reading on the balcony overlooking the lake as the night fell; an early massage in a teepee over the lake; sailing and long walks in the forest. A must for a late summer getaway or a true northern winter experience.
