Wear White and Practice Yoga for Peace This Thursday Evening
On a sea of sunshine-yellow mats, hundreds of people dressed head-to-toe in white will come together and move as one this Thursday. Together, they will take part in an early evening yoga session at Exhibition Place, where the grand Princes’ Gates, setting sun and a group of revered teachers will overlook their practice.
The Lolë White Tour was created as a way to bring like-minded people together and celebrate shared values of peace and unity. Toronto has experienced moments of tragedy in the past few months, with the city binding together to overcome a deadly van attack in April and then, just a handful of days ago, a mass shooting. The hashtag #TorontoStrong has been a prevalent fixture this summer and this tour seems to have returned at an ideal time. With a city still reeling from the most recent acts of violence, a chance to focus on peace and unity is much needed.
Since the tour’s formation in 2012, over 65,000 people have participated in the yoga sessions, which take place in cities across the world. Following the Toronto event, the tour will continue on to Montréal, where Lolë will offer a morning session on August 18th.
These sessions promise to be much more than your standard practice. In addition to the class, there will also be a guided meditation and (depending on what package you buy) a range of goodies from Lolë.
This event is not just an opportunity to exercise, it’s a chance to make connections with the people around you, to release stress and to recharge. And between live music and the discussions being held, it is sure to be a night to remember.
If your wardrobe is full of standard black leggings, here are some of our favourite all-white pieces below.
