How to Wear Summer’s Hottest Jewellery Trend Like Kate Middleton

Forget the jet set—this summer, it’s all about the swing set.

Statement earrings have been stealing the accessories spotlight for several seasons, but the hottest new style features a retro decorative element, originally found on curtains (hello, Scarlett O’Hara).

Tassels are swinging onto the scene in a big way. From Saint Laurent’s spring 2017 epic shoulder-duster earrings to Jessica Chastain’s stunning Piaget Rose high jewellery necklace (she recently paired it with a backless gown at Cannes), these dazzling danglers are popping up everywhere.

Even royals are giving this trend a try. Kate Middleton recently wore a colourful (and affordable) pair of Kate Spade tassel earrings to the opening night of 42nd Street at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane, in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice. The Duchess of Cambridge’s merlot-hued costume earrings (a departure from her usual glittering fare) and tea-length Marchesa dress created a chic matchy match evening look.

“Tassels are the new bows,” says Kate Spade chief creative officer Deborah Lloyd to PeopleStyle. And like bows, tassels add an unexpected spin to any look. Throw them on with a printed maxi dress or a white tee and distressed denim for serious summer vibes.
