Karl Lagerfeld sends out shorts at Chanel haute couture

Does anything prove the dominance of shorts this spring than their appearance on the runway at Couture Week? At the Chanel show this morning short suits made their way down the runway in shimmering dark grey, cream, lemon yellow, pastel pink, and light blue.

The pale palette ran through the collection of exquisitely made froth and liquid silk gowns topped with Minnie Mouse bouffants. One of our favourite pieces was a pale pink cocoon crafted from handmade pinwheel rosettes, which gave the impression of wrapping the model in a densely-packed rose garden. The show was feminine to the extreme--almost in-your-face. Toughening up all this girlishness (or lightening up, depending on how you look at it) were touches ripped straight from the Kaiser himself. One white evening gown was worn with a long black tie, and pointy-toe boots and fingerless gloves, both done in space age silver, adorned even the show’s bride, Abbey Lee Kershaw, who was joined by a silver-suited Baptiste Giabiconi.
