John Fluevog Just Designed a Shoe Inspired by BC Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry

“At times like these, we’re so fortunate to have someone who is calm and comforting but direct, and positive but realistic, informing and educating us day to day."

Canadian shoe designer John Fluevog, known for his whimsical, eye-catching shoes, is launching a new style later this month honouring Dr. Bonnie Henry, one of the many Canadian heroes at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19. Named the ‘Dr. Henry shoe’ after British Columbia’s provincial health officer, the two-toned pink Mary Janes have been “designed with her blessing.”

100% of pre-sale profits from the limited edition shoe will go towards Food Banks BC, which is helping the most vulnerable in our community during this challenging time. Part of Fluevog’s ‘Operetta’ series of shoes, the special style features patent leather accents, interlacing, and Dr. Henry’s own wise words stamped onto the footsock: “Be kind, be calm and be safe.”

Dr Henry is a noted fan of the Vancouver shoe brand and according to CTV, “has often been seen sporting John Fluevog footwear during her daily news conferences.” After the news broke about the collaboration, Dr. Henry told Postmedia News that it was “the most exciting thing, in my whole life, that’s ever happened to me. I just think he makes beautiful shoes.”

The admiration runs both ways. Over the past several weeks, Dr. Henry has emerged as an important source of information on the coronavirus pandemic and someone Fluevog says he’s grateful for during this time of crisis.

“At times like these, we’re so fortunate to have someone who is calm and comforting but direct, and positive but realistic, informing and educating us day to day,” said Fluevog in a press release. “We always like to find ways to help, and to highlight those who are doing good in our world. To hear about and see that our admiration for Dr. Henry was mutual was just a beautiful cherry on top of an already great idea sundae.”

John Fluevog isn’t the only brand honouring Canada’s medical and health experts. Last month, Calgary brands SophieGrace and Madame Premier joined forces on a line of t-shirts celebrating Dr. Deena Hinshaw, the chief medical officer of Alberta; Dr. Theresa Tam, the chief public health officer of Canada; and Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The price and pre-sale release date for the Fluevog Dr. Henry shoes has not yet been confirmed so stay tuned for more details.
