It’s an almost-trend!: Dita Von Teese sports a skeleton outfit at Gaultier couture

Two’s not quite a trend, but it was hard not to wonder if a trendlet was in the offing when Dita Von Teese appeared on the Jean Paul Gaultier runway in a bony ensemble. Von Teese came out mid-show, swagged and be-plumed like Norma Desmond, and proceeded to remove her dress, revealing a bedazzled exoskeleton. Less haunting, certainly, than Riccardo Tisci’s ghostly lace squelettes earlier this week at Givenchy, but a hell of a lot more fun. The striptease was meant to publicize Gaultier’s new lingerie outing with La Perla, though we doubt this is one of the pieces coming to market. (But what woman wouldn’t want sparkly straps holding up her bum?)

We’re curious to see if this will shake out into the market. Will Miu Miu do tibia-print dresses, instead of cats or flamingos? Will Forever 21 rip off Givenchy’s bone-shaped zipper pulls? (Actually, they for sure will.)
