H&M Is Saving the Planet, One Pair of Jeans at a Time

H&M’s recycling program might just make you feel better about that spring shopping spree.

At a time when sustainability is on the tip of everyone’s tongues, diverting unwanted clothing from landfills is major issue when we’re talking about taking care of our planet. In a video released this morning to coincide with their worldwide Garment Collecting initiative, “Bring It”, we go along for the ride that clothes take once entering H&M’s recycling program. Until the company reaches their ultimate goal of having zero clothing ever make it into the garbage, the hope is to prolong the lifespan of garments by upcycling the used fabric. This spring, their Close The Loop denim collection will incorporate recycled fibers pulled directly from donations.

Since launching the worldwide Garment Collecting initiative in 2013, H&M has collected over 40,000 tons of clothing and has their eyes set on Canada to contribute a whopping 550,000 lbs this year.
