The Breakout Star of Gucci’s Latest Campaign is a Teacup Pig

Gucci has just released a campaign for their latest capsule collection celebrating the upcoming Chinese ‘Year of the Pig’, and naturally, the most captivating models hail from a porcine background. Shot by photographer Frank Lebon, the campaign features a number of pigs, which I can only imagine made the most adorable snuffling noises on set, bundled up in a baby stroller, sniffing a repast of cucumber sandwiches, and nestled in a bed surrounded by Gucci wallets. It’s almost too adorable. The collection itself is pretty cute too, featuring wallets, backpacks and shirts emblazoned with Disney cartoon characters from 1933’s The Three Little Pigs, but nowhere near as cute as the pigs themselves. Does anyone know if these pigs have an Instagram I can follow? (Press Release)

Calvin Klein Has Announced Their Post-Raf Simons Strategy

After Raf Simons was callously booted out of his role as creative director of Calvin Klein before the holidays, there’s been plenty of industry speculation as to how the brand will proceed in the wake of creative crisis. Now, it seems, we have an answer. Calvin Klein announced this week they would be shuttering their New York flagship at 654 Madison Avenue and relaunching the higher-end 205W39NYC collection under a different name with a new creative director. In an interview with WWD, Calvin Klein CEO Steve Shiffman said that the move will “enable [Calvin Klein] to run a more modern, dynamic and effective business, as well as allow us to reinvest in the brand.” As a result of the decision, “approximately 100 employees were let go across the entire business,” including the entire staff of the flagship. In 2017, Simons had tapped his frequent collaborator, artist Sterling Ruby, to reimagine the minimalist boutique into a vibrant yellow, full-store installation. It’s sad to see this chapter of the brand so thoroughly erased from history. (WWD)

Babs Simpson, a Midcentury Fashion Editor with ‘Unfailingly Correct’ Taste Has Died

Babs Simpson, a socialite who parlayed her impeccable taste and social register status into a 25-year career with Vogue, has died at the age of 105. Born Beatrice Crosby de Menocal in Boston, Simpson’s career began after she divorced her husband of seven years, William Simpson. She began her career as an assistant to a photographer who shot for Harper’s Bazaar and eventually started working for the magazine itself under the legendary fashion editor Carmel Snow. Eventually she moved to Vogue, where she overlapped with the tenure of another legendary editor: Diana Vreeland. Her proximity to greatness turned Simpson into a figurehead herself. Anna Wintour called her “a legend, as she should be, in the halls of Vogue.” Matthew Schneier’s obituary of Simpson published in the New York Times includes many more fascinating anecdotes about her life, and is not to be missed. Tommy Hilfiger to Launch a Collection with Zendaya at Paris Fashion Week

On March 2nd, Tommy Hilfiger will present his TommyNow latest see-now, buy-now collection, a collaboration with global brand ambassador Zendaya, for Spring 2019 at Paris Fashion Week. This new collection will be a departure from Hilfiger’s previous collections that partnered with a different Tommy Girl, Gigi Hadid. The capsule collections with Hadid were smash successes for the brand, drawing “billions of social media impressions, increased traffic to the brand’s web site and double-digit sales growth” to the brand, as reported by WWD. According to Hilfiger himself, the show “will blend our Americana heritage, Zendaya’s confidence and optimism, and the city’s iconic elements for a truly unforgettable runway event.” We’ll be waiting with bated breath.
