Greta Constantine, one of Canada’s most iconic homegrown high-fashion brands, turned 20. To celebrate, designer Kirk Pickersgill toasted with guests at an intimate cocktail party hosted by Holt Renfrew, honouring the brand’s many achievements to date.
Founded by designers Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong in 2006, the name Greta Constantine pairs the names of Wong’s grandmother, Greta, and Pickersgill’s grandfather, Constantine. Personal identity and heritage have been intrinsic to the brand’s values since day one, with their influence shining through in every collection. Since 2020, the brand has been led solely by Pickersgill, who continues to embrace both his Canadian and Jamaican roots.

Greta Constantine has a lot to pride itself on over the past two decades. Over the years, the label has dressed an impressive list of celebrities, won CAFA awards, and appeared in countless magazine features. One year feels particularly momentous: in 2021, Emmy Award-winning actress Viola Davis received the Icon Award from the African American Film Critics Association while appearing remotely, due to COVID-19, in a Greta Constantine gown. That same year, Amanda Gorman shone on the cover of TIME magazine in one of the brand’s sunny yellow dresses. The catalogue of A-listers who have worn Greta Constantine’s sculptural masterpieces doesn’t end there. Naomi Campbell, Catherine O’Hara, Coco Rocha, Angelina Jolie, Ciara, and Amy Poehler are just a few of the household names who have embraced the brand’s one-of-a-kind silhouettes and electric hues.

The Holt Renfrew event was a celebration of all that and more. Two decades of creative vision later, Greta Constantine continues to pave the way for Canadian—specifically Toronto-based—designers seeking to make a name for themselves. The Spring 2026 collection holds true to the values that have shaped the brand from the beginning: an homage to Pickersgill’s Jamaican background, colours reminiscent of the Jamaican flag and the distinctive structures that are a staple of the brand’s designs. Twenty years in, Greta Constantine is proof that remaining authentic is key to success.
