The Jil Sander collection for Uniqlo was welcomed with such open arms that the designer is collaborating on a second collection for the Japanese brand. It’s set to launch for Spring 2010.  Also on her second lap, Stella McCartney for Gap Kids, with a collection also in the works for spring.  [Fashionista]

In celebrity-turned-designer news, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe is collaborating with Maison Martin Margiela. The musician’s single piece is a sterling silver microcassette on an unraveling tape chain. The accessory can be worn as a bracelet, necklace, or belt, to name a few plausible suggestions. Only 199 will be available at Maison Martin Margiela boutiques. [Racked]

After the infamous blackface episode of America’s Next Top Model, Tyra Banks has made a public apology for styling the models as mixed races. Banks said, “I apologize because that was not my intent [to offend anyone]. It’s my number one passion in my life to stretch the definition of beauty.” So Tyra had good intentions; she meant to inspire women of diverse races to identify with the shoot, but somehow reverting back to a historical practice heavy in racism doesn’t seem to be pushing the envelope forward. The Yves Saint Laurent auctions continue on their second round in Paris. So far, the items have raised $6 million for AIDS charities. The total 1,185 item lot of items from Yves Sant Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé’s Normandy home was expected to go for about 4 million euros, so the funds have far surpassed their target.
