Fashion news: CFDA honours McQueen, Beyonce does fashion for everyone, but American Apparel won’t

Apparently American Apparel doesn’t do curves. Plus-size model/adult star April Flores recently visited the AA showroom to ask why there are no larger sizes. She was outraged to hear, “that’s not our demographic.” [Jezebel]

An Australian company has taken wearing your phone on your hip (a trend popular among suburban dads) to a new level. iClothing has introduced a little black dress with a pocket large enough to fit an iPad. How very 2010 of them.  [Mashable]

An intimate portrait of a nude Yves Saint Laurent is going up for auction in Paris late this June. Let’s just hope it does better than the nude portraits of Kate Moss, which failed to spark interest at Christie’s last week. [Vogue UK]

Just announced: Sarah Jessica Parker will help honour the late Alexander McQueen with the CFDA Board of Directors’ Special Tribute Award at this year’s CFDA awards. [My Fashion Life]

Speaking of Sarah Jessica Parker, the reviews are in for the latest installment of the film/brand/monster Sex and the City. The Globe and Mail reluctantly gave it half a star for being worse than the first. [Globe and Mail]

And back to the CFDA Awards; modeling great Iman will be recognized as a fashion icon. Iman admitted to WWD: “Diane [Von Furstenberg] said, ‘Darling, we’re honoring you this year.’ And I said, ‘For what?’” Well, Iman, if you have to ask... [WWD]

She’s been the face of fragrances, handbags and Haitian earthquake relief T-shirts, but Beyoncé has yet to front a fashion campaign. With that in mind, it’s a little surprising to hear whom the megastar will pose for: European fast-fashion chain C&A. Leave it to Beyoncé to make even the most normal frocks fierce. [Racked]
