Between filming several major movies slated for release this fall—including Rush, which premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival in September—actress Olivia Wilde took time out of her hectic schedule to be photographed for FASHION’s September issue.

Photographed on a building rooftop amongst the striking high rises and waters towers of New York City—Wilde’s hometown—the 29-year-old actress poses in a feather and mesh dress by Gucci.

After a full day of shooting, Wilde spoke to features editor Elio Iannacci on her upcoming batch of films (including Third Person, which was written and directed by Canadian Paul Haggis and co-stars Mila Kunis and James Franco), her philanthropic work and her upcoming collaboration with fiancé Jason Sudeikis.

On her stylish, scandalous role in Rush:
“It is based on a true story. I play Suzy Miller—who was James Hunt’s first wife. Suzy ended up leaving [James] for Richard Burton—who left Elizabeth Taylor for Suzy. My job in the film was to tell the story of James’s tumultuous marriage, which was very Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? messy… I got to wear archive Gucci head to toe through the movie!”

On how Marchesa upped her star wattage:
“People remember what you wear. At the Golden Globes in 2010, I wore a brown Marchesa ball gown that people still stop me on the street to ask me about—which I think is so funny. I never thought I’d be recognized for a dress. [Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig] really understand my body and I love when they take risks. I think they’re one of the more adventurous design teams.”

On her philanthropic fashion project with designer Yoana Baraschi and Anthropologie:
“I really wanted to find a creative alternate way of fundraising. With Anthropologie, I’ve partnered [my organization] Conscious Commerce with Yoana and we have designed this really adorable dress that we’ll launch in the fall, which will raise money for a girls’ school in Calcutta called New Light. It is also an orphanage that saves young women from entering the commercial sex trade—which is a huge problem in the red light district of Calcutta.”

On learning a few tricks from fiancé Jason Sudeikis
“His skill level is so high. I really have learned a lot from him, especially when it comes to being bold and taking risks as an actor within a role. Comedians are so great about trying things, like doing seven takes in seven different ways and really not being afraid to stumble.”

Correction: The interview with Olivia Wilde in the September edition of FASHION incorrectly states that Olivia plays the second wife of James Hunt. She plays the first wife. The print story also states that Wilde and Jason Sudeikis will be starring in the film Relanxious. Wilde and Sudeikis have not been attached to Relanxious since 2012.
