Why the Transition Dress Should be Your Go-To Piece Between Seasons

You've probably already got a few in your closet

Somehow we’re already well past the middle of August meaning yet another summer is slipping away from us day by day. And although we’ll soon have to wave goodbye to long, sunny days, the arrival of fall brings with it the opportunity for a whole new wardrobe — and that’s something we’ve always got time for.

If you ask us, fall fashion is the most exciting part of the season as we can finally start bringing back the clothing that was too heavy to wear under the summer sun. However, the summer-to-autumn clothing transition isn’t always easy.  Late, unexpected summer heat making an appearance in September can hinder the standard approach, and make a seasonal wardrobe transition a little more difficult.

When shorts no longer seem seasonably acceptable, and it is still somehow too hot for pants, the perfect solution to this transition trickery is the humble dress.

Transition dresses are a FASHION office staple for the in-between season because they provide the perfect foundation for layering.  The ideal transition dress is light enough to wear a cardigan or a trench coat over, or can be worn with a t-shirt or long-sleeve underneath to elevate your outfit and add some extra detail.  Plus, a good transition dress is mid- or knee-length, allowing you to pair it with sneakers, boots and tights of your choice.

To help get you started, we’ve gathered some of the coolest transition dresses on the market that are the perfect building block to a trendy fall look.  Best of all, it is easy to make these dresses both stylish and appropriate for work or school and for any strange weather situation you may encounter this season.
