Since 1976, the Primetime Emmy Awards have been held on a Sunday. Breaking traditions this year, the biggest award show celebrating all things television took place on a Monday and host, Seth Meyers, made sure we didn’t forget it. While he poked fun at the fact and stating how easily this award show would be forgotten, judging from last night’s events on the red carpet and in the theatre, it was anything but unforgettable. Modern Family took home the Best Comedy Series Award, but Breaking Bad swept up four of the most coveted awards including Best Actor in a Drama, Best Supporting Actor in a Drama and Best Drama Series. However, as much as we would love to give you the play by play of last night’s event, we’re much more interested on what went on in the wardrobe department over on the red carpet. Stars from binge-worthy Netflix productions to the highly addictive network shows, we round up the 21 best-dressed stars from the 2014 Emmys.

There was a definite subtle nod to Fall 2014’s hottest shades on the red carpet this year, and the colour of choice definitely had to go to red. Although pinks did appear here and there (funny girl Zooey Deschanel opted for a neon pink Oscar de la Renta dress and Cat Deely, who’s usually seen in leggy ensembles when hosting So You Think You Can Dance, wore an elegant ombre Burberry gown), there is no doubt the bold red shade was the hot colour. While we would have died to see Julia Roberts work the colour (she is the original lady in red), there were plenty of gorgeous ladies we couldn’t keep our eyes off including five time Emmy-award winning Julia Louis- Dreyfus (who had steamy smooch session with Bryan Cranston), Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes cleans up good!) and the oh-so-elegant January Jones.

And for those who couldn’t decide which colour they loved more, our fave TV celebs found a way to rock the best of both worlds. Kaley Cuoco didn’t stray from her love for puffy gowns, which had pink floral appliques sprinkled on her red tulle dress, but we loved how girly the newly dyed platinum blonde Lena Dunham looked in a Giambattista Valli ombre dress.

Kerry Washington paid homage to her current favourite show and proved the fact that orange is the new black. And seeing how stunning the Scandal star actress looked in the citrus hue, we couldn’t agree more.

While there was plenty of ladies showing off their assets (if you got them, flaunt them, right? Ahem, Sofia Vergara), high necks proved to make just as much of head-turning statement on last night’s red carpet. We couldn’t get enough of how gorgeous Lizzy Caplan looked in a black and white gown by Donna Karan, but if we were to call out a favourite, we’d have to give it to Michelle Dockery because she looked absolutely stunning in a colour-block Rosie Assoulin creation.
