Edmonton: The fashion week of champions
Local designers and boutiques are getting ready to show their Fall 2009 offerings at Edmonton Fashion Week (April 2 to 9, from $15, 780-420-1757, tixonthesquare.ca, or at the door. The shows at the Transalta Arts Barns (10330-84 Ave.) will feature new talent from the University of Alberta’s Textiles and Clothing program, along with EFW regulars like Stanley Carroll, Nokomis and C’est Sera.
In addition to the runway, there will be live performances by Dance Unlimited, Kimberley Spears and Quanteisha, as well as hair and makeup showcases to keep things entertaining.
Once the shows have wrapped up, there’s a designer sample sale on at Planet Ze Design Centre (April 11 and 12, 10055-80 Ave., 780-428-3499) The list of names includes Betsey Johnson and Kenneth Cole, as well as local talents Carroll, Kelsey McIntyre and Karen Vaquilar. A self-proclaimed accessories junkie who is addicted to shoes, sunglasses and vintage jewellery. Even my mom claims that I “came out of the womb wearing stilettos.” Although my shoe collection (178 pairs and counting) is a definite source of pride, my greatest achievements to date are my three sons, aged two years and under.
