Originally from Tampa, Flordia, Doechii, née Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon, has been making waves in the music industry for the last few years. Although she’s professionally released music since 2019, the 26-year-old rapper first saw major success when her 2020 single “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake” went viral on TikTok. Soon after, Doechii became the first female rapper to sign a record deal with LA-based label Top Dawg Entertainment in 2021.

The self-proclaimed “Swamp Princess” — a name Doechii gave herself as a nod to her larger-than-life persona and Floridian roots — has since been turning out hit and hit, with her recent songs, “What It Is (Block Boy)” and “Denial is a River” continuing to climb on the charts.

The rapper also had a very busy 2024, as she performed to thousands while headlining music festivals and released her first full-length album, Alligator Bites Never Heal. And towards the end of last year, she was named Variety‘s 2024 Hip Hop Disruptor in honour of her growing influence on the music industry.

Fast forward to the 2025 Grammy Awards and Doechii made history with her ‘Best Rap Album’ win. She accepted the award with an emotional speech, which began, “This category was introduced in 1989, and two women have won,” she said, before correcting herself. “Three women have won — Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and Doechii!"

For her big night, Doechii sported several head-to-toe Thom Browne looks.

As she arrived on the red carpet, the artist sported a body-hugging custom wool pinstriped dress that exaggerated her hips. In a continued play on the look’s subtle ‘office siren' vibe, the singer paired the dress with a matching tie and a crisp white button-down that featured Thom Browne’s iconic red, white and blue armband detailing.

The rapper later sported an even more dramatic silhouette as she accepted her ‘Best Rap Album’ award, wearing custom high-waisted trousers that jutted out at her hips and loosely fell to the ground. She contrasted her unique wide-leg look with another crisp white Oxford shirt underneath a dark grey corset and matching cropped jacket.

Later in the night, the singer-songwriter had audiences on their feet with a show-stopping performance of “Catfish” and “Denial Is a River” which included a seamless on-stage costume change. The first performance look involved a grey colour-blocked sportcoat and matching shorts, which her dancers ripped off to reveal a custom white brief and bra complete with the designer’s signature red and blue accents. Sparkly dangle hoop earrings by Pandora completed her look.

Doechii closed out the Grammys by appearing in one last officewear-inspired ensemble as she walked the red carpet with her brand-new award. Inspired by Thom Browne’s Fall 2023 collection, the singer wore a billowy grey tutu dress in a mixed pinstripe and flannel pattern. She completed the look with the same silver Pandora earrings, platform boots, a complementary dark grey tie and, of course, a white oxford shirt.

What else has Doechii worn?

Though she went for an all-Thom Browne evening at the Grammys, Doechii’s usual look involves some degree of preppiness. For the Pre-Grammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons Honouring Jody Gerson, the artist wore a Casablanca track jacket and skirt that looked as though it were plucked from a Wes Anderson film’s wardrobe. For her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in December, Doechii went full Gucci, in a striped polo and monogrammed skirt. And who could forget the 90s perfection that she delivered in her music video for "Denial is River.”

In a 2024 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, her stylist, Sam Woolf, explained that the singer is “stupid creative” and often has a clear vision of what she wants when brainstorming her outfits. While her Alligator Bites Never Heal era was filled with lots of preppy textures, patterns, colours and unique silhouettes, Woolf mentioned that he’s not exactly sure where the singer’s style will take her as her star only continues to rise. Whatever’s in store, we’re sure Doechii will keep us on our toes — and we can’t wait to see whats next.
