Who Is the Designer Behind Beyoncé‘s Killer Grammys Gown?

Lebanon has its fair share of high fashion design names, from Georges Hobeika to Elie Saab to Zuhair Murad, all of whom regularly create red carpet catnip beloved by A-list celebs the world over. Now, after Beyoncé’s much-Instagrammed showstopping look from the 2018 Grammys, we can add another previously under-the-radar name to the list: Nicolas Jebran. Here, five things to know about the Lebanese designer.

1. He launched his eponymous line of couture in the early 2000s in Beirut, and has since become known for dramatic, embellished, statement-making gowns.

2. He custom-made Queen Bey’s gown for the Grammys, citing the 1960s Black Panther movement as inspiration, and has also worked with her in the past, designing outfits for appearances at red carpet events like the 2014 Video Music Awards.

3. One of his gowns also made an appearance in her tour-de-force visual album Lemonade. "...she was in a burning house and she had a light she kept twirling around, it was a chartreuse Nicolas Jebran gown,” recalls stylist Marni Senofonte.

4. He dressed Olivia Munn in a barely-there embroidered dress for the 2017 Video Music Awards, and was also the man behind Bella Hadid’s Old Hollywood-inspired white gown at the Bulgari Festa gala in Venice last year.

5. Given his flair for creating OTT stage-worthy ensembles, he’s found fans among music’s biggest superstars, including Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Miley Cyrus and Cardi B.
