10 unconventional jewellery trends, including thigh gap accessories
Bejewelled armbands, statement cuffs and over-the-top neck accessories are nothing new. Last spring, ‘90s inspired chokers with a modern twist made their appearance on runways everywhere while celebs like Rihanna, Beyonce and Kylie Jenner brought the Britney-esque belly chain back to life. Since then, we thought we had seen it all. But It was only a matter of time before our jewellery collections mutated from dainty chains to full-on body shackles and now, the bling has spread all the way down to our calves, making us question the amount of functions our body parts actually have.
Zoe Kravitz rocked a pair of matching leg chains (leg bracelets, leglets?) last week while stomping around lower Manhattan. The actress chose an adjustable shin harness by L. Jardim, and made it look casual with a breezy, velvet mini-dress and edgy neck accessories to match.
While some may think of the groundbreaking leg chain as risqué, by Givenchy standards, it’s actually quite conservative. For his Fall 2015 RTW show, Ricardo Tisci showed off models with dramatic baby hairs and braids alongside a face full of jewels including glued-on gems, oversized septum rings and earrings that covered the entire surface area of the models ears (and we thought Gigi Hadid’s bejewelled forehead look was something to swoon over). Oddly enough, Tisci wasn’t the only designer to host jewels in the most unexpected of places. Models at Dolce & Gabbana rocked out with bedazzled headphones that looked more like regal headpieces, while labels by the likes of Lanvin, Tom Ford, and J.W Anderson also hopped on the unpredictable jewellery train with miss-matched earrings, and fringe accessories.
