This Spring’s Cherry Trend is Oh So Sweet

The cherry aesthetic has officially infiltrated the fashion and beauty scenes — but is it just red wine dressing repackaged?

We all remember tomato girl summer, blueberry milk nails and the countless other food-inspired trends of recent years, but there’s already another favourite fruit-forward seasonal aesthetic on the rise.  Say hello to cherry girl spring.

According to Pinterest Predicts — AKA online oracle of fashion, beauty and lifestyle trend projections — the cherry aesthetic is set to take over this season. The trend centres around deep, rich and dark red hues reminiscent of last fall’s red wine dressing trend, or, well, a perfectly ripe cherry. However, contrary to fall’s palette of burgundies and purples, this season’s cherry aesthetic casts a wider net: lighter, brighter and even more traditional bright reds count, too.

While Pinterest forecasted intense cherry hues being associated with opulence, retailers are drawing inspiration from the tart fruit in a more literal sense. Case in point: Coach’s recently released line of bags and accessories adorned with bold reds and a cherry-printed pattern. The playfulness of the trend is skyrocketing on TikTok as well. On the platform, creators are going viral for their collections of cherry-inspired favourites, including bright crimson sweat sets, shimmery cherry nails and Y2K-esque Juicy Couture bedsheets.

This light-hearted take on the trend, and the popularity associated with it, can also be linked to the industry’s obsession with nostalgia. Remember cherry-flavoured kiddie lip glosses and patterned baby tees? Bold reds and cherry imagery have stood the test of time, and what we’re seeing today is the trend cycle’s latest iteration.

If this modern take on the cherry trend has piqued your interest, you’re in luck. Whether you’re looking to upgrade your closet or refresh your beauty routine this spring, there’s a cherry-kissed product that’s just ripe for you (we’re sorry, we had to).

From deep, almost burgundy tones to vibrant scarlet and striking crimson, the cherry aesthetic’s spectrum is vast and diverse. While richer hues offer a degree of timeless elegance, brighter and more vibrant shades read more playful and energetic. And, of course, we can’t forget pieces that showcase literal patterns featuring the tart fruit. Thanks to its versatile colour palette and whimsical motifs, the aesthetic can make any garment a standout piece.

Cherry-coded beauty

The trend has seeped into the beauty space, inspiring the launch of products and hair transformations galore. On TikTok, the glamorous cherry cola hair colour has gone viral several times — and with good reason. It’s a sophisticated alternative to copper and dark auburn, fusing a deep chocolate brown with vibrant undertones. The result: glossy, edgy tresses — perfect for those who want to switch up their look with a subtle pop of colour.

This we know for certain: there’s nothing the beauty industry loves more than a fun food-inspired trend. Cherries are no exception. From sultry dark lipsticks to more subtle blushes and balms, it’s clear that the fruit has officially infiltrated the modern makeup scene — but it hasn’t stopped there. Cherry-inspired gourmand fragrances, like Cherry Baby from Sabrina Carpenter’s Sweet Tooth fragrance collection, have grown increasingly popular as well.
