Have You Wondered What She Carries in That Chanel Handbag?

Chanel's new 3.55 Podcast asks ten very stylish women this very question.

The Chanel 3.55 Podcast

The Chanel 3.55 podcast returns with a new interviewer, a new location and a new theme.

As you might have guessed by the name, the Chanel 3.55 podcast is a riff on the brand’s game changing 2.55 handbag. With that in mind, this podcast series will focus on “Handbag Stories” from ten prominent women in the Chanel family. It’s Karl Lagerfeld’s confidante, and muse, Amanda Harlech who steps into the role of interviewer. She talks with, to name a few, Pernille Teisbaek, co-founder of the Social Zoo agency, Laure Hériard-Dubreuil, founder of The Webster, Style Bubble‘s Susie Lau, photographer Margaret Zhang, as well as models Stella Tennant and former FASHION cover star Soo Joo Park.

“You really see the personality of somebody in the condition of their bag,” says Park. “And the size of the bag too, because if you’re a minimalist you’re able to fit your entire life into a mini-little clutch.”

The first 3.55 Podcast started at Colette, the landmark Parisian boutique which closed in December last year. A second installment was held in Hong Kong during the Mademoiselle Prive Exhibition. This new location helps makes the “3.55 Handbag Stories” so special.  Interviews were held during Paris Fashion Week inside Mademoiselle Chanel’s historic apartment at 31 rue Cambon located across from the Ritz Carlton Hotel where she lived.

In the ten interviews each woman gets to talk with Harlech about her relationship with Chanel handbags, her favourite purse and how she sees the bag in relation to her style.

“I have a combination of things in my bag. It’s quite messy,” admits Stella Tennant, who in her late 40s, continues to walk the runway, most recently Alexander McQueen‘s Fall 2018 show. “I was thinking: ‘Is it [her handbag] like my inner sanctuary?’ Mmmm…probably not because it’s very chaotic. If it’s the state of my mind, then I’m a little worried about it.

The podcasts give an added perspective on Mademoiselle Chanel’s apartment. The space is immaculately preserved exactly as the founder left it. It is located above the ground floor flagship boutique, and upstairs from Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld’s office. The apartment is said to be a constant source of inspiration for Lagerfeld, so much so, he photographed model Kaia Gerber for Chanel’s Spring 2018 bag campaign on the very sofa where the ten podcast interviews took place.
