There is something so empowering about a woman in a black suit. As timeless as the little black dress is, the tuxedo suit can easily be transformed from a typical men’s look to something ultra feminine. We saw many designers include classic suits in their Spring 2013 collections, so it comes as no surprise that this look is just as popular on the red carpets. From Carey Mulligan in a Victoria Beckham suit at the Tiffany Blue Book gala to Angelina Jolie in a custom Saint Laurent number at the World War Z premiere, there’s no doubt the black suit is in. And this week two other leading ladies, Uma Thurman and Victoria Beckham, also opted to wear this clean-cut look.

Yesterday Uma Thurman attended the premiere of Sam Mendes’s musical production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in London.

Amongst the A-list stars were Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick along with their son. (It was quite the family filled event: Thurman also brought her two eldest children.) Wearing slim-fitting trousers, the actress paired it with a shimmery white long sleeve shirt underneath and a chic black cape on top. Keeping her accessories at a minimum, she finished her look with a pair of black sandals and simple chandelier earrings. As she exited last night’s affair with her family, she was seen carrying a camel-coloured tote bag. The mother of three not only dressed fabulously for the red carpet, but her outfit was also ideal for keeping up with her children.

On the other side of the world, another glamorous working mom was working the cameras in a black and white ensemble. Aside from supporting her soccer superstar husband David Beckham in Beijing, the former Spice Girl also had her own business to attend to in the capital city. Hosted at the Yintai Centre, Beckham greeted awaiting fans and media as she launched her Victoria Beckham Collection in China’s prestigious department store Lane Crawford. As the perfect model for her own label, Beckham was dressed impeccably stylish in a tailored black suit from her collection. Draping the jacket over her shoulders, Beckham also wore a white silk crepe blouse with a plunging neckline and black pointed-toe Casadei shoes. With only a ring and a black leather clutch as her accessories, she topped off her look with a messy updo and her famous Posh Spice pout.
