Well, it’s official: Awards show season is done and dusted. And now that the crown jewel of the red carpet has come and gone, what else is there to do besides cry into our failed Oscars ballots (We thought Boyhood was a shoe in, too). And rehash the show’s best moments (Gaga’s Sound of Music tribute). Maybe go to sleep... eventually.
As per usual, the Academy Awards were all about standing out, and no one did so quite like Lupita Nyong’o, who wore upwards of 6,000 pearls, all sewn onto one jaw dropping Calvin Klein dress. Embellishment was a big message across the board, with virtually everyone’s gown---from Emma Stone’s and Jennifer Lopez’s asset-baring Elie Saab looks to Julianne Moore’s custom Chanel Haute Couture---showing off its craftsmanship. Rosamund Pike’s embroidered Givenchy gown took a reported 2,000 hours to make, Felicity Jones’s Alexander McQueen confection had been in the works since December, and Keira Knightley wore a Valentino Couture dress complete with layers of stitched poetry in its train.
The Oscars 2015 red carpet has cemented many of this season’s biggest trends, while creating some all its own---namely, the statement necklace, which we’ll discuss tomorrow. For now, let’s quickly recap the colour wheel, soon to be seen in a prom catalog near you. White and pale pink were the biggest winners of the night, with neutral hues worn by Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Aniston, Marion Cotillard and Viola Davis. Meanwhile, red, continuing on from the Golden Globes, was spotted on many attendees including Dakota Johnson and Behati Prinsloo.
We’ll be diving deeper into the Oscars 2015 red carpet tomorrow, but meanwhile: Who was your favourite?
