Lindsay Lohan Is In Her Elegance Era

She's the low-key star of NYFW, too.

We’re officially in the midst of a Lindsay Lohan renaissance. And never has that been more clear than during New York Fashion Week Spring 2025. The millennial icon has been sitting front row at Michael Kors, popping up at the galas and sitting courtside at the U.S. Open — and looking chic while doing it. Lindsay Lohan isn’t only having a professional comeback, but a style makeover, too.

As most millennials know, Lohan has a long — and kind of tumultuous — Hollywood history. The former tween star first came onto fan’s radars in 1998 as twins Halle and Annie Parker in The Parent Trap and it was straight into superstardom from there. During her early 2000s-reign as a screen queen, Lohan starred in movies like Just My Luck, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, 2003’s Freaky Friday and, of course, Mean Girls.

And not only was LiLo on a career hot streak in the early aughts, she was also becoming a certified fashionista in the process. Alongside stars like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, Lohan is synonymous with the markings of Y2K style. Think battered Balenciaga Le City Bags, oversized Rolex watches and face-shielding bug-eyed sunnies. She was a certified 2000s It girl. But in 2007, Lohan’s career — and health — took a turn when the singer and actress was arrested multiple times and faced charges for a DUI car crash. That summer, she was arrested and reportedly in possession of cocaine, and the former star sentenced to one day in jail after pleading guilty and on probation with community service.

After starring in some lesser-known films like Georgia Rule and Labor Pains, in May 2010 an arrest warrant was issued for Lohan after she missed a court hearing. This lead to Lohan being ordered to spend 90 days in jail and an additional 90 days in a drug and alcohol rehab program. This same year, Lohan checked herself into substance abuse treatment. In 2011, Lohan faced felony grand theft charges after walking out of a jewellery store with a “one of a kind” necklace valued at $2,500 (she was later outfitted with an electronic ankle bracelet for home confinement).

Post-legal issues, Lohan returned to TV in the 2012 movie Liz & Dick and 2013’s erotic thriller The Canyons, also making her stage debut in 2014 in London’s West End production of Speed-the-Plow. During this time, Lohan dated several Hollywood hangers-on, like DJ Samantha Ronson and Russian businessman Egor Tarabasov to whom she became engaged. In 2016, the couple called off their engagement a month after they were photographed in a public physical altercation in Greece, with Lohan alleging he’d been abusive. Finally, her troubles came to a head in 2018 when Lohan posted a truly bizarre video to her Instagram account. In it, she followed a Syrian family she claimed needed help, attempting to grab one of the children.

That all changed post-pandemic. After a short stint on the 2019 reality show Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club, and appearances on shows like Netflix’s Sick Note, Lohan’s name started popping up again in 2022. That year, it was announced that the former screen queen was returning to movies after an almost 15-year hiatus, signing a creative partnership with Netflix to star in at least two movies with the streamer. And while fans may have been initially nervous — it’s tough to make a comeback anytime, but particularly so when you’ve faced as many struggles as Lohan has — they didn’t need to fear.

That same year, Lohan stared alongside Chord Overstreet in Falling for Christmas, as a hotel heiress who finds a new perspective on life (and love) after suffering from amnesia. And in March 2024, Lohan starred in Irish Wish as woman whose wish for love is granted, only for her to find out it might not be what she actually wants. Both cheesy romcoms? Yes. Both beloved by LiLo fans? Also yes.

On the red carpet for Irish Wish earlier this year, it became clear that while Lohan may have taken a break, her sense of style was back, with the actress embracing sleek silhouettes and sumptuous fabrics in monochromatic colours that communicate sophistication to indicate her personal — and sartorial — growth. She began wearing labels like Christian Siriano, Christoph John Rogers and John Galliano and folks were officially seated and ready to watch the Lindsay Lohan renaissance.

During the Spring 2025 seasons of New York Fashion Week in September 2024, Lohan attended the Kering Foundation’s annual Caring for Women Dinner in the city, turning to a favourite designer. For the event, Lohan donned a custom black lace Balenciaga gown with an off-the-shoulder neckline. As Lohan told Vogue in a recent interview about her new style, the dress, an Old Hollywood take from a designer the actress knows and loves, featured hand-sewn crystals.

On September 10, Lohan stepped out for the Michael Kors Spring 2025 runway show in a grey slip dress and fur-collared coat from the brand. She looked positively chic, and 100 per cent ready for fall.

And her style renaissance isn’t specific to fashion week. Earlier this month, Lohan was spotted court side at the U.S. Open alongside husband Bader Shammas. For the sporting event, Lohan stuck to her palette of luxe monochromatic neutrals, stepping out in a sleeveless cream dress with a cinched waist and pleated skirt.

In August 2024, Lohan cut a chic silhouette at the Disney Legends Ceremony. The Freakier Friday star wore a key-lime green Jil Sander gown with draping at the sides for the occasion. Lohan paired the gown with diamond drop earrings from Anabela Chan.

The key to Lohan’s sartorial success is in the simplicity. As opposed to some of her early 2000s looks, which prioritized the maximalist ideal of “more is more,” 2024 LiLo is wearing beautiful clothes instead of the clothes wearing her. By sticking to simple silhouettes, minimal embellishment and quiet luxury-inspired tonal palettes, Lohan and stylist Mariel Haenn let Lohan’s beauty shine. And truly, that’s all Lindsay Lohan fans really want to see.
