Calgary Stampede 2017: 27 Wardrobe Must-Haves

You've made the commitment. Now you've got to look the part.

It’s that time of year again. No, I’m not referring to the return of Game of Thrones, rather, the Calgary Stampede.

Let me tell you something: the Stampede is no joke. For 10 days straight (this year running from July 7th-16th), locals and tourists take in everything the Stampede has to offer. Some locals even take some time off work to take in the Rodeo, stomp around the fair grounds, and enjoy plenty of food.

If you’re anything like me, it can be difficult to figure out what to wear during Stampede. I’m not one to buy pieces that I’ll never wear again, so tacky western wear from big box stores just isn’t an option. That being said, it’s still important to capture the spirit of Stampede while staying true to your style.

To help with this enduring dilemma, I hit up Ingrid Schulz, owner of the Calgary boutique, Cody & Sioux, for some Stampede styling tips.

Tip #1: Keep it real.

“When people begin thinking of needing to ‘costume up’ for the 10 days of the Calgary Stampede, that is inevitably what results in tackiness.”

Tip #2: Binge on fringe.

“Fringe is practically a religion when it comes to Stampede style.”

Tip #3: The no-fail formula.

“If you’re on a budget, stick to wearing one or more of the three essentials of any cowgirl’s closet – cowboy boots, a belt, and a well-made hat – and work in your own wardrobe with it.”

Here are 27 Stampede suggestions worth wearing any time of year.
