While there was no shortage of shocking dresses on the red carpet at last night’s SAG Awards (Nicole Kidman, we’re looking at you), the most surprising of all was Bryce Dallas Howard’s scarlet sequined number. Yes, it looked beautiful, but what really stood out was the price tag - her gown rang in at a reasonable $309 (it’s not often we can afford a red carpet gown). Howard has been outspoken about the difficulties in dressing her size 6 frame given the standard size 2 samples that circulate through the hands of Hollywood stylists, and often shops department stores ahead of red carpet appearances.
Last night’s gown was designed by the label Dress The Population which manufactures all of its pieces in Los Angeles. Part of the company’s mandate is to give back to the local community. Each month, 50% of the proceeds of a single style are donated to a charity chosen by the customers and employees. For January, sales from the Teresa White Sequin Gown will go to The Trevor Project, an organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth.
Bryce, we’re behind you all the way.
