This Sold-Out Dress Is Being Brought Back! Get Your First Look at Its Redesign

Since its 2010 inception, broke&living has built a cult following drawn to the line’s gender-fluid and affordably priced Toronto-made pieces. Looks have ranged from wow-worthy blue corsets to mustard yellow kimono-style toppers. The all-black-women design team, comprising Nicole Simmons, Charlene Akuamoah and Meghan Prosper, make clothes that are wearable and sexy. But this spring, broke&living is making big changes to its design approach by opting for a single-item rollout.

First up is the “Murder She Wrote” snap dress. “This dress sold out minutes after its first release in 2016, so we’re bringing it back and putting a little spin to it,” says Akuamoah. Since all three women have an innate understanding of design (Simmons’s mom learned to sew as a child, Prosper’s is a master crocheter and Akuamoah’s used to be a seamstress), they have tweaked the silhouette so it’s flattering on multiple body types. “The piece is minimal but still holds the bashment statement it was popular for in the first place,” says Prosper. “Bashment?” you ask. According to Prosper, the Jamaican term describes an event that “exceeds all expectations. You can’t find the words to describe how the food, music and people made you feel. It was a bashment.” Got it.

Get a first look at the redesign in the look book below and find it on broke&living’s website.
