The Bike Shorts Trend Kim Kardashian Can’t Get Enough Of

My earliest and most distinct memory of bike shorts involve my mother cutting off the leg of one of her beloved pairs to make me an emergency bandeau bra for the prepubescent buds sprouting from my chest. The newly developed lumps were causing a meltdown minutes before I was to leave the house in a clingy top for a cousin’s Bat Mitzvah. I haven’t looked at bike shorts the same way since that traumatizing day but the spring/summer 2018 runway collections from designers like Nina Ricci and Off-White, along with a flurry of Kim Kardashian West spottings, have me rethinking my aversion.

Worn anywhere but a bike (phew!) this spring trend is all about mixing sport and street (think bike courier cool). The key is finding the perfect fit with a high-rise waist and mid-thigh length. Dress them down with chunky dad sneakers and up with delicate kitten heels, these shorts are the season’s newest staple. Kim K has paved the way with a wardrobe full of Yeezy making it only natural for celebs like Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin to follow. Next up I’ll be adopting them into my own wardrobe but I’ll be testing the trend with a budget friendly pair like these simple shorts from Old Navy.
