The Most Selfie-Worthy Bathrooms Across Canada

Selfies are serious business.

The restaurant restroom selfie is a social media staple. A decade ago, pulling out your camera in a public bathroom stall would garner curious looks. Now, a background toilet and some colourful wallpaper sends the Instagram likes rolling in! In the age of aesthetic-seeking millennials, restaurant design—from the front door to the loo—is increasingly important. We do our business... then we get to business. And sometimes, we even invite our friends to join us!

Whether it’s a disco light or glow in the dark graffiti, restaurateurs are smart to add a little something special to keep selfie-seekers coming back for more. From all across Canada, here are eight of our favourites.

Locals Only

589 King St W, Toronto

The wallpaper of this downtown snack bar bathroom is on constant rotation, keeping Toronto’s keenest selfiers coming back for more. Past backgrounds include: a Playboy collage, the Supreme logo, a Drake meme and aesthetically pleasing pink flamingos. To top it all off, the mirror light looks like one of those fancy LuMee phone cases Kim Kardashian has. Fancy!

Mandy’s

2067 Crescent St, Montreal

Gourmet salads and fresh juices with a side of aesthetically pleasing bathroom decor? Oui, s’il vous plait! (That’s French for: yes, please.)

Otto’s Bierhalle

1087 Queen St W, Toronto

At Otto’s Bierhalle—which FYI does brunch just as well as it does beer and bratwurst—pressing the red button is highly encouraged. With disco lights and a bumping sound system, you can drop the beat after dropping a load.

Tomo

109 Clarence St, Ottawa

This trendy Japanese restaurant/night club has lined its bathroom stalls with blown-up Manga images. There’s ample space in these pretty private toilet rooms, which is a plus for seflie-takers after an #OOTD post.

Caclutta Cricket Club

340 17 Ave SW, Calgary

This highly Instagrammable Indian restaurant was 2017’s "Best Restaurant Design in Canada" winner. You’ll want to take a pic in the hot pink bathroom—and you’ll want to photograph every other corner of the millennial pleasing space, too.

L’Avenue

922 Mont-Royal Ave E, Montreal

The restaurant’s very appealing Google description reads: “Hearty upmarket brunch & diner dishes (like chèvre-topped burgers) plus hip digs & quirky bathrooms.”

Bauhaus Restaurant

1 W Cordova St, Vancouver

This fancy-shmancy "$$$$" modern German restaurant is on The Diner Club‘s list of “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.” Its second highest achievement: cool, colourful graffiti bathrooms.

Grey Gardens

199 Augusta Ave, Toronto

Jen Agg’s Kensington market wine bar is perfectly captured in three emojis: ?✨?.
